Zombie Erotoclypse by Tamsin Flowers

Screen Shot 2014-08-22 at 1.25.39 am

After he read my review of (among other favorites) “POW! It’s Shibari Girl!” by Tamsin Flowers in my review of The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica, my husband told me that Tamsin had published a collection of zombie erotica.

Readers, I married the man for a reason.  He gets me.  I immediately opened my Kindle app and bought it.

This 5 story anthology by Tamsin Flowers will gross you out, make you squirm for all the right reasons, and then finish you off with a laugh.

Why does it even cross my mind to entertain this idea for a nanosecond?  it’s go so many things going against it and so much about it just plain wrong.  Zombie cock?  The risk of death by zombie.  The risk of death by marauder.  A skanky club–and I hate clubs, even great clubs.  Just for the chance to stick some zombie’s grey and rotting cock into my sweet tight pussy.  Yeah, sure Id’ love to get back in the saddle.  One day, in the scheme of things, when the right guy–who definitely isn’t gonna be Skylar–comes along.  But I don’t want to screw a zombie who’ll probably bite my neck in the process and undead me.

Red Hot Zombie Cock features a club where you can have sex with a chained zombie.  Which, humans being humans I can totally see happening post Zombie Apocalypse.

You know that when you’re a teenager, every problem you have is magnified a million-fold.  What you might not realize is that when you’re a zombie, every problem you have is also magnified a million-fold.  That’s a million times a million and, as I’ve never been very good at math, I’m going to leave you to work out the answer for yourself.  It’s a fucking lot, if you can’t be bothered to work it out either.

I was a Teenage Zombie Virgin features the sweetest end to a zombie love story.

But, ultimately, screwing zombies wasn’t satisfying, wasn’t much of a turn on, after the first few weeks.  He did it to scratch the itch but, more and more, Stanley found himself dreaming of a wholesome, young, uninfected human flesh.  Ripe, peachy girls with a pink flush of health and no scabby scales or sores or missing body parts.  God, what he wouldn’t give for a piece of cheerleader squirming underneath him or a nice beach volleyball player he could lick and suck and eventually bite.

My favorite story was Peeping Zom.  Not only because it features the first reference to Paul Revere I’ve ever seen in an erotic story,  it showcases a zombie pervert spying on a human couple.  The human sex is red hot, and the final sentence of the story made me laugh out loud.

However, the newspapers would have you believe that once you’re zombie you’re going to look gross–and that you’re going to be mind-numbingly dumb.  You won’t.  I’ll share a little secret with you–eating brains makes you smart–smart enough to play dumb.  But new zombies always have a bit of a self image problem.  It’s something you get over pretty quickly –as I said, most zombies look normal.  It’s only the ones that have been undead for a really long time that start to look like they’re falling to pieces.

The Joy of Zombie Sex features a zombie Samaritan, who facilitates the transition period to being undead.  Including learning about the various zombie appetites.

I pulled the top up over my head and dropped it to the floor.  Then I lowered my hands to my pants and popped open the fastening.  As they slid down my legs to the ground, I slipped my thumbs into the rim of my panties, running them round the waistband provocatively.

“You want to see more?” I asked.

“Is a zombie hungry?” he answered.  Black humor was the only humor at a time like this.

Bar the Door is a bittersweet but sensual goodbye between lovers, one of whom has been bitten.

I realize the idea of Zombie Erotica might be a little outré, and in someone else’s hands it would never work.  Tamsin, however, is mistress of making what would otherwise be a  bizarre concept accessible and erotic.

But if you really can’t get your head around zombie erotica, but still need a new source of braaaaaaiins….I recommend The Newsflesh series by Mira Grant and World War Z by Max Brooks, both of which are some of the best books I’ve read in the past few years.  I’m now a raging Mira Grant fangirl, and I hate the Brad Pitt movie for ruining a fantastic book.

The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica

When I was saw that Rose Caraway was looking for people to review The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica, I was happy to volunteer.  I received a copy of the book in exchange for a review, but all opinions expressed are my own.

Imagine a library—a very special one run by a librarian whose only concern is pleasing her patrons. In fact, this librarian will stop at nothing to service her readers. To that end, she has carefully collected a fantastic and fantasy-filled set of stories guaranteed to satisfy literary lusts in The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica. This voracious volume is simply bursting at the binding with amorous archives and bibliophilic bliss; it is a veritable dictionary of desires with stories by top eroticists Rachel Kramer Bussel, Tamsin Flowers, and Salome Wilde, as well as Rose Caraway, the sexy librarian herself.

The strength and weakness of The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica is that it encompasses so many styles of writing and genres.  Contemporary.  Sci-Fi.  Horror.  Steampunk.  Speculative Fiction.  It’s all here.

Will you like this anthology?   To answer that, I’m going to give micro reviews to my favorite nine stories.  (Yes, nine.  I had so much trouble trying to pick three–my usual review style–that I decided to highlight all nine).

Sensate Silicone by Lilian Douglas

If you’re a woman who has ever used a strap-on, you’ve probably wondered what it would feel like if the toy were a real cock.  Or maybe you’ve just wondered what it feels like for a man when he’s fucking a woman?  In this story, tech savvy sex toy inventors have created just that—a strap on that feels like a real cock to the wearer.  The descriptions had me squirming in my seat in the best possible way.  My biggest complaint is that I can’t go out and buy one now!

Three Legs in the Evening by Janine Ashbless

One of my daughters has a middle name from Greek Mythology.  A story premised upon an interview with Oedipus, with the focus on his encounter with the Sphinx instead of Queen Jocasta had me sitting up and paying attention.  It’s a really imaginative premise, and the twist at the end had me going back through the story to see if there were any hints I’d missed.  Kudos for creativity.

The Secret Game by Chase Morgan

In the author’s section, it’s noted that this is Morgan’s first published story.  With well paced sex and a twist ending that gave me a good chuckle, it won’t be his last.  Solid contemporary erotica.

POW! It’s Shibari Girl by Tamsin Flowers

I always enjoy Tamsin’s stories.  A superhero named Shibari Girl and her encounter with the new villain in town, complete with snappy dialogue made my day.

The Perfect Massage by Olivia Archer

Getting a massage from two men and having things take a sexual turn is a fantasy I’ve entertained more than once while on the table.  Archer does a fantastic job of turning fantasy into a sensual story.

Full Frontal Neighbor by Lynn Townsend

I applaud Lynn for submitting and Rose for accepting a story with a plus sized heroine.  I’m plus sized, and I don’t often see women who look like me in anthologies that aren’t specifically centered around BBW’s, so it made for an unexpected and welcome suprise.  I liked the main character, the voyeurism, and deft way that the encounter between our heroine and the object of her lust is handled.  I’d read a full length novel with these characters, Lynn.

The Whole of Me by Katya Harris

I had never read speculative fiction erotica before this story…and now I know I’m missing out.  A husband downloads his wife’s memories into his own brain as she lays dying…and a year later finds out he got more than he ever expected.  The sex was well written, but for me the real pull of the story came from the idea that you never fully know your partner.  Getting access to every last secret corner of someone’s brain is going to be more than you bargained for.

Appetizer by Sommer Marsden

Sommer fulfills a fantasy I never knew I had with this contemporary story.  Best.  Anniversary.  Gift.  Ever.

From Greek Myths to Super Heroes to Contemporary Erotica to BDSM and beyond, Rose has pulled together an impressive collection.  I’m linking to the goodreads page for the book for you find the full range of purchase options.

Summer Loving is now available in e-book form and paperback

Screen Shot 2014-07-25 at 9.27.46 pmWhen Sommer’s husband was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, writers from around the world came together to send support. Bronwyn Green was the pioneer in charge of a fundraising event. Tamsin Flowers came up with the plan to do a charity book. —Alison Tyler, here.

Summer Loving is now available!

I enjoyed reading the full collection, but several stories really stood out for me.

Fireworks Display by Emerald—She had decided to watch some fireworks from the comfort of her car.  Then the truck with six gorgeous men pulls up.

Next week is National Day here in Singapore.  There is a huge display of fireworks as part of the festivities, and when I see them, I know this story will be on my mind.  The build up and tension are great.  The juxtaposition against and description of the fireworks really did it for me.  Emerald is a new author to me, and I’ll be checking out more of her work.

Tell me by May Deva–A pin-up photography session is the cost of losing a poker bet.

Any story that starts with “Oh, hell no!” is going to grab my attention.  This story hit all my sweet spots.  I love pin-up photography, I love banter, and I really really love twists at the end of a story.

Arizona, Ireland, New England by Cheyenne Blue—You never quite know where home is until you find it.

Two friends come up with the idea of switching homes for the summer.  But it doesn’t quite turn out how they expected.  As an expat who thought I knew what I was getting into when I moved to the other side of the planet, only to find out that fantasy and reality are two different things, I related to both the women in the story.  The way that Cheyenne uses sensory descriptions–the way one of them “will fearlessly sweep a scorpion from the kitchen bench with a swift flick of a tea towel” makes for a story I’ll revisit.

Screen Shot 2014-08-02 at 4.09.40 pmAnd of course, you can read my story, “Baby it’s Hot Outside.”

I’ve given you an excerpt before.  Here’s another one….

“I never liked Josh,” Erik remarked.

“Why?” My high school boyfriend had always been a sweetie.

“Why do you think?  I was crazy about you.  You only noticed I was alive when you kicked Jake and me out of the living room.”

“That’s not true.  I noticed you were alive whenever you ate the last slice of pizza, too.”  Sarcasm was my crumbling wall of defense against desire.

Down girl.  CANNOT.

“Three days with you, and I feel like a lovesick idiot all over again.”  Erik gave a bitter laugh.  “I sound like a fucking idiot, too.”

Our eyes locked.  As one, we turned and began the walk back toward my apartment.

Fingers traced the thin line of skin between the top of my shorts and the bottom of my tank top as we walked.  Erik’s arms wrapped around me, pulling me against his chest at each red light.  Arousal grew with each passing intersection.  Did the colorful illumination highlight or hide that my nipples were erect?

One more second was too long to wait.  I grabbed Erik’s hand and pulled him into the Botanical Gardens; my apartment was still five minutes away.  Silently, I led him away from the well-lit path.  Once hidden in shadows, we stopped.  The moisture between my thighs couldn’t be blamed on humidity.

It was one thing to burn my way through every battery in my house trying to cool my libido.  It was entirely another to deliberately jump into the fire.

Anyone who chooses to live in a land of eternal summer shouldn’t be scared of heat.

“Caroline,” he murmured.

I twined my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to Erik’s.

Can.  CAN.

Remember, all proceeds go to help Sommer Marsden’s family.

Those (sexy) Boys

It’s no secret that I’ve always had a special place in my heart for fictional men and women.  Jareth from Labyrinth was practically responsible for my sexual awakening–“Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.”  Alanna from the Lioness Quartet.  Wesley Crusher from Trek Next Gen.  Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Daemon from the Jewels series.

And Sandy….

Screen Shot 2014-07-23 at 11.33.43 pm

I loved the novella “Those Girls” by Alison Tyler, and I fell especially hard for Sandy–bisexual, dominant, and sexy as hell.  When Alison said that there was a sequel coming out, I volunteered to be an advanced reader for “Those Boys.”

Why does Sandy do it for me so well?

There’s something about that word.  Hurt.  I could have said, “punish.”  I could have said, “spank.”  Nice, light-hearted BDSM terms.  But I didn’t want those, and neither did Rem.

Rem is such a pretty little peacock.  Sandy needs to muss him, to hurt him.  And for one night, he does.  Then Rem doesn’t come back…

You don’t walk away from that type of honest.  Not when it’s everything you’ve ever wanted.

…..

There had not been a word.  Not a phone call.  Was I losing my touch?

Seeing Sandy question himself is almost as erotic as when he exudes enough confidence to drown you.

I won’t spoil the ending–for that you need to read the book.

You guys know that Alison’s writing is some of my favorite erotica.  But even among her many books and characters, Sandy demands I sit up and pay attention.   Or bend over and beg for it.

What I really loved about “Those Boys” was getting a peek behind the Dom’s Dom exterior.  We learn that Sandy has submitted–to learn what it’s like to be the submissive…and that peek is so tantalizing.  I really hope that the next book in the series will give us even more of a peek under the skin.  And that it will be longer—Alison, can we please get a full length novel with Sandy?

“Those Boys” by Alison Tyler is published by Go Deeper Press.

Twisted by Alison Tyler

**I received a free pdf copy of Twisted in exchange for a review**

We all know I’m a sucker for Alison’s anthologies, and Twisted is no different.

Today I’m doing a review of Bondage Blogging by Meadow Parker from that antho.

I was inspired to review this particular story because long ago and far away I was a sex blogger.  (My former blog was deactivated and locked.)  As a former blogger, I approached Bondage Blogging assuming the blogger(s) would be narrating the story.  Instead, our narrator is a fan of a former couple who had a brief but popular blog highlighting their bondage exploits.  (The brief but popular sex blogger is an all too true detail of the sex bloggersphere.)  A slightly adorkable novice, she is soon fast in over her head when the couple begins a seduction, and then eagerly hands herself over to them.  The way Parker describes the sensation of hot wax landing on your skin, particularly skin that has been recently punished had me wondering if I still had any bondage friendly candles sitting around.  Any story that inspires me like that gets a thumbs up.

If you pick up Twisted, be sure to let me (and alison @msalisontyler on twitter) know which one you liked best!

Ass Tour: Executive Training by Sophia Valenti

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 9.10.12 PM

Smart Ass, Bad Ass, Kiss My Ass: The Trilogy edited by Alison Tyler is a compilation of three years worth of anal themed erotica repackaged into a single volume.

Alison tells the following story about the inception of the series

When we first decided to compile a collection of stories about anal sex, I was not sure how readers would respond. Five of us got together and decided to write tight, taut, literary, smutty stories that revolved around backdoor banging. What made the endeavor unique is that we were being bold, not coy and quiet, about our theme. There was no beating around this bush, we stood up tall and proud and called our first collection “Kiss My Ass.”

Within a few months, our sales were soaring and we were receiving reviews like this one from Aisling Weaver: “Each one held me on the edge of my seat, breathless and flushed, eager for every word.”

We knew we wanted to tackle a sequel, but spent some time debating the title. We asked ourselves questions: Do we like writing about anal? Fuck yeah. Do we hide our feelings? No fucking way? Why? Because we are bad asses, which is why we ultimately named our second collection “Bad Ass.”

“Bad Ass” won instant five-star reviews, such as the one that called it “Asstacular” and this one: “So good. It surpasses its predecessor. I read it one quick swallow, but at the end of each story I almost didn’t want to keep reading, because each one is its own little gem, even though they all fit so well together.”

What had begun as a one-off endeavor transformed into an “annual anal” series. Our third installment was “Smart Ass,” which readers were anxiously awaiting.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the trilogy. Today I’ll be reviewing the first story in the book, Executive Training by Sophia Valenti.

Sophia’s story is written in the first person, and we never learn the name of her protagonist. For me, this worked exceedingly well as I related, strongly to her. The following is a description of the protagonist, but it could just as easily describe me.

I was tired of being the responsible one who planned out her days with clinical precision, weighing the pros and cons of every move. I didn’t want to think anymore; I simply wanted to feel.

Valenti blends submission, (potential) exhibitionism, spankings and anal into a well-crafted story. The juxtaposition of the character-a well put together executive exterior-and the woman behind the exterior works well to open the story. The paddle that the protagonist “craved and despised” is one of the most accurate descriptions of a submissive’s relationship with a toy that pushes her limits I’ve seen, and the spanking scene had me squirming-in all the right ways.  I also love that her protagonist had a moment of doubt before going through with her first anal experience. Due to the taboo nature of anal, most people with whom I’ve talked to about anal (which, granted, skewed data sample) confessed to either needing a few tries to go through with it, or at least a second thought before going through with it. That doubt creates a nice element of realism and relatability to the story.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the book, and I highly encourage you to go out and pick up The Trilogy.

Sudden Sex Blog Tour: Sugar Upsets My Vagina by Kristina Lloyd

Screen Shot 2013-02-22 at 10.30.32 PM

Alison Tyler has done it again–a compilation of short, sexy stories that will keep you hot on those cold winter nights (or, in my case, further steam up a tropical night).

Sudden Sex is out as of this week (Amazon, B&N, Book Depository if you’re outside the US-free shipping worldwide) and it contains 69 sort stories of 1500 words or less.  I can tell you from experience that it is no easy feat to write a story that is hot AND has plot in so few words.  Here are 69 examples of how it can and should be done.

When Alison asked for people to participate in a blog tour by reviewing one of the stories, I was eager to do so.

Perusing the titles of the stories, one jumped out at me–Sugar Upsets My Vagina by Kristina Lloyd.  With such a great title, I knew I HAD to read that story.

Sugar Upsets My Vagina appealed to me on a number of levels.  This story leaves the sugar on the table, and reaches instead for spice.  Lloyd knows which details to include to complete the picture without losing focus; the fanned tail of a flogger as it punishes a submissive, heels ringing on a London street, a hung up coat.  Forget drawn out foreplay and romantic sex–it’s not wanted here–the protagonist wants a hard, satisfying fuck.  Kristina rewards her, and us, with just that.

Where did I come from?

One of the most common questions a kid can ask is “Where do babies come from?”  It’s actually a very simple question, and one that is asked quite understandably.  But it’s often a question that freaks parents out.  The answers run the gamut from the absurd (the stork)  to the heteronormative (when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much) to the religious (God) to any number of other answers.

I’m proud to have backed What Makes a Baby via kickstarter when I was pregnant with my younger daughter.

I’m even more excited to share that it is available for pre-order from Amazon and BookDepository!.

Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 7.02.18 PM

I think this is the perfect book to start an honest discussion with your child about where they came from.

  • It uses non gender specific language (some bodies have eggs, some bodies do not)
  • It doesn’t assume that the bio parent is the person actually parenting the child (never uses the terms mommy/daddy)
  • It mentions that sometimes the new thing made by a sperm and an egg doesn’t grow (which is important to me as the mom of a baby lost via miscarriage)
  • It notes that all babies grown differently (which is a way to open a discussion about children with special needs)
  • It notes that babies can be born via the vagina or through a special cut (Older daughter was a vaginal birth, her sister was a C-section)
  • It asks “who was happy you were born?” rather than telling you that mommy and daddy or some sort of stereotype was what awaited the child.

In doing so, it legitimizes every child.  Adopted, born of IVF, being raised by a parent and a step parent, the child of a single parent, and so forth.

I think this is a great book for kids 2-8.  Obviously as they age, they’ll want to know more, but this is the only book I like that’s out there for the youngest kids.  Please support Cory and Fiona and pre-order your copy for your child or a child in your life!

My favorite erotic book

I was updating my goodreads profile today, which got me thinking about what erotica I enjoy as a reader.

The first erotic book I ever bought was “The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty” by Anne Rice, and I’m still very much a fan.  It is one of the “classic” pieces of erotica for a reason, and I expect that if you’re familiar with erotica (and if you’re not, why are you here?), you’ve either read it or decided not to.

The second book I bought was an anthology from Black Lace, a British erotica publisher by women for women.  They’d excerpted a number of their novels into one delightful anthology, Pandora’s Box 2.  Although I bought it over a decade ago, these excerpts still arouse me, and I’ve read the full novels of several of the excerpts.

My favorite excerpt is from “The Ninety Days of Genevieve” (available in paperback and in e-form), which is amongst my favorite full length erotic novels.  This is also my standard suggestion for those readers who were aroused by some of the content in 50 Shades, but want strong writing and a more accurate depiction of kink.

My second favorite piece is from “Lord Wraxall’s Fancy” (available in mass market paperback and as an e-book), which I also enjoyed as a full novel.  This one will appeal to those of you who enjoy historical fiction.

Sadly, according to Amazon, Pandora’s Box 2 is out of mainstream print, although there are (at this time) 11 used copies going for less than $10 USD.
